happy homelife.. organic veggie dhal

happy homelife.. organic veggie dhal

Went swimming with Tam after work today.. UNSW now has a really nice gym and pool with cafe and I have a wonderful flatmate who comes with me :)

We also started ordering organic veggie and fruit boxes, we’ll probably do one a week and share. It makes us both happy.

Tonight we cooked a yummy organic dhal with veggies… we were so proud and happy we could barely contain ourselves… hehehe :D

<< This is the most awesome dhal in the world! With yummy organic broccoli, fresh coriander and the tastiest carrot in the world.. yep.

Centennial Park birds :)

Centennial Park birds :)

Had a nice sunny arvo in Centennial Park. Most of my friends had a wild party last night and being true to my pledge of taking it easy I stayed at home. So today I had lots of relaxed happy time on my hands.

The gorgeous spring sunshine made me happy but when I got to the park it was windy. So I walked a bit then settled with the birds under a couple of huge trees. There were parrots and cockatoos tearing up the turf, graceful black swans sleeping on one leg in the lakes and pelicans, ducks and ibises sharing the shallow waters. I sat down really close to photograph them and to feel a bit like a bird for a while :)

We Sydneysiders take this huge and amazing park for granted. It’s such a precious and breath taking gift! So few other cities have this kind of environment and I’m only minutes away by car. It was great to sit in the sun and feel blessed…

Then I caught up with Craig on webcam tonight and had a quiet night at home… tomorrow I’m taking up swimming at uni, yay.

More bird photos here. (please don’t link back to blog, thanks)

Sleeeeep

Sleeeeep

As someone with a jilted sleep routine and need to sleep 9.5 hours each night I’m sorely aware of sleep differences, sleep patterns and just how much I’m out of line.

Yet about 20% of the population, perhaps some of those who are setting the trend for shorter sleep, only get about 4-6 hours each night and are chronically sleep deprived. I know a few people like this myself! SMH article

It’s quite obvious what causes lack of sleep: faster lifestyles, longer working hours, shift work, late-night tv/internet/light exposure, anxiety and depression, jet lag and… some plain greediness to do more, mmmm I know this one… and finally the reality that some of us have circadian rhythms that just don’t gel with the 24 hour routine!

Get ready for 24-hour living in New Scientist

According to research about half of the population are early birds and half late night owls, with a smaller percentage being extreme versions of either. I’m an owl, Craig’s an owl, and no matter how much we want to change it it does not change!!

In our defense we say we have the gene variation for being an owl and back in cavemen’s time we were the ones who kept the fires burning and watching out for wolves! Aren’t we good at rationalisation? Our solution: taylor our work lives to our body rhythms! How radical!

There are lots of other new technological solutions that may or may not be rational. One is a new set of glasses with blue LED lights that are supposed to ‘re-set’ our brain cycles. This could be interesting.

Perhaps we could also stop using the Internet at night or do some meditation… not sure these will ever displace sleeping aids and obsessive emailing, but if your sleep goes below 6 hours you might want to consider any of the above options.

As for me I’ll just sleep in and then blog in the afternoon… thanks :)

Domestic stuff :)

Domestic stuff :)

Been at home a fair bit lately… it’s great to have a wonderful flatmate! We’ve been playing domestic goddess a number of times… Tam cooking her curries and dhal and me baking gluten-free goodies :)

I’m a bit of a home person at the moment and I like it. I do get out though… have been seeing friends and was at the poly social last night. I always enjoy it, watching the poly community grow and gaining new insights… and talking my head off… this time I actually fell off my chair laughing :D

I also saw Simone on Tuesday night with Craig. It was soooo good to finally catch up and cuddle! Yummy. I’m also planning my post-PhD cocktail party and found a date that doesn’t clash with other stuff… will be so good to celebrate and see everyone :)

Then I return to my muffins again…

Party with friends

Party with friends

Spent the whole Sat night and Sunday morning with some beautiful friends and Craig at a private party! It was great to get out and party for a change, play, connect, dance and do some outrageous photos… I was yearning to do that. Fun times!! :)

It has shaken up my health a little bit, but as I was very responsible and cautious, I think I managed the ‘party hazards’ really well!

Finally a short post ;)
