‘Tv’s becoming literature’

This doco analyses various social prototypes, here in episode 1 the average family man, as they appear in US TV shows from 50s sitcoms to challenging, progressive contemporary cable shows such as Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

The latter is especially close to my heart and one of my all time favorite pieces of TV art. It just so happens that today the most progressive popular art form that is in the video/film medium is specific cable TV shows, not cinema. This is an interesting twist and should convince those who haven’t considered TV as an occasional art form that is capable of profound expression of meaning.

Recommended to anyone interested in the history & sociology of popular culture.
